I found it hard to sympathize with Travis and his ordeals. Finally the QTE is stupid but back then every game seemed to implement it, it didnt bother me too much. Once you have enough bullets I totally ignored it because its a hassle. The degradable melee weapon system is just plain bad. The theater is an original addition although one which doesnt make a lot of sense storywise. Sadly the rest of the locations are less interesting or scary. Although Brookhaven hospital already serves (in SH2 atleast) as a mental institution, I really liked the Cedar Grove Sanitarium, it was a true frightening place, it really made me uncomfortable and is perhaps the scariest section I can think of regarding the 'western' games. Some locations are recycled but we get to visit a few new ones. The locations finally are faithful renditions of the town. The new monster design are kind of mediocre, they aren't that interesting and although they are vaguely connected to Travis I dont think they are very creative or frightening (which seems to be a recurring problem with all post team silent games). Tired of seeing nurses and straitjackets again. There are no real memorable tracks though. But when traveling through the town music seems to be missing for some reason. I think the score in the Sanitarium especially is very good dark and gritty, it really enhances the experience. The music and sound design are done well. The camera positions are awful at times and the button to properly align the camera doesnt work at times, but its doable. The characters and cut scenes are also solid. I think Climax made a real proper rendition of the town and I expect they used the hardware to its fullest. The graphics are surprisingly good, certainly if you consider that this is a psp port. I've read some reviews so I knew this game isn't regarded as a classic. I think the post-team silent games are a real mixed bag: Homecoming was terrible, Shattered Memories great and Downpour kind of lukewarm. I downloaded pcsx2 recently so now I finally have a chance for the one SH game I missed out on. I have played every chapter in the main series and Shattered Memories, save for Origins, as I didnt have a system that could play it and there was no pc version. In 2005 I bought my first Silent Hill, SH2 for the original Xbox and since then I've been a fan (obviously).
